Father of reality TV star Heidi Montag arrested for sexual assault

The father of reality television star Heidi Montag was arrested Thursday by Aspen police on charges of aggravated incest, sexual assault on a child and sexual assault of a child by one in a position of trust.

William Montag, 67, of Glenwood Springs, was wanted on a statewide warrant from Arapahoe County. Aspen police said he was arrested at the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club, where he works.

According to a 29-page arrest affidavit issued by the Arapahoe County District Court, William Montag is accused of sexually abusing a female minor from the time she was 13 until she was 17. The assaults reportedly began in Frisco in 1993 and continued later after the family moved to Centennial in 1995.

The affidavit says that based on the statute of limitations, the crimes that occurred before July 1, 1996 can’t be prosecuted.

According to the report, investigators received information from a clinical social worker stating that an individual reported being molested by Montag. In July 2014, the investigator met officials at the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office and reported a timeline including at least 50 incidents of abuse over five years ending in 1998.

Heidi Montag, 28, was born in Crested Butte. She came into national prominence in 2006 after a starring role in the MTV reality series The Hills. In 2009, she and husband Spencer Pratt, were contestants in an NBC series, “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!”
